info@theofes.comCircular Society Enterprises for Circular Green Economy (CSE4CGE) The Circular Society Enterprises for Circular Green Economy (CSE4CGE) Project was implemented between 2020 and 2022 with financial support from the European Union. The project was led by ICU – Istituto per la Cooperazione Universitaria, an international non-governmental organization recognized by the European Commission and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Organic Fertilisers Eco Systems (OFES) served as the implementing partner in Jordan, supporting local stakeholders in strengthening sustainable solid waste management practices and advancing circular economy principles. The project aimed to enhance the capacity of municipalities, civil society organizations (CSOs), and local communities in the governorates of Karak and Irbid by promoting knowledge, skills, and practical approaches related to sustainable Solid Waste Management (SWM) and resource recovery. Through a participatory and needs-based approach, the project sought to improve local waste management systems while creating opportunities for environmental sustainability, resource efficiency, and community engagement. A key component of the project involved conducting comprehensive assessments to evaluate the existing capacities, knowledge levels, challenges, and training needs of municipalities and CSOs operating in the field of waste management. The assessments provided valuable insights into local practices, institutional gaps, and opportunities for improving waste collection, segregation, recycling, reuse, and circular economy initiatives. Based on the assessment findings, OFES designed and delivered a series of specialized training programs targeting municipal staff, local organizations, and community representatives. The training covered a broad range of topics, including: Principles and practices of integrated solid waste management. Waste segregation at source and material recovery. Reuse and valorization of recyclable and sorted materials. Circular economy concepts and their application at the local level. Environmental and economic benefits of recycling and resource efficiency. Community awareness and stakeholder engagement in waste management. Development of local initiatives and sustainable waste management solutions. The project emphasized practical learning and knowledge transfer, enabling participants to better understand the waste management value chain and identify opportunities for transforming waste into valuable resources. Participants were equipped with tools and methodologies to improve local waste management planning, strengthen environmental governance, and promote sustainable practices within their institutions and communities. Through collaboration between municipalities, CSOs, and local stakeholders, the CSE4CGE project contributed to building stronger local capacities for environmental management, fostering partnerships for circular economy initiatives, and encouraging the adoption of more sustainable waste management practices in Jordan. The project also helped raise awareness of the economic and environmental potential of recycling, reuse, and resource recovery as drivers of local green development.
